At Cablesmiths, we recognise the importance of protecting the privacy of the Personal Information we collect from our customers and our prospective customers. We are committed to and bound by the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information is collected, used, and shared when you visit or make a purchase or hire from cablesmiths.com.au (“the Site”).

PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT

When you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and some of the cookies that are installed on your device. Additionally, as you browse the Site, we collect information about the individual web pages or products that you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and information about how you interact with the Site. We refer to this automatically-collected information as “Device Information”.

We collect Device Information using the following technologies:

  • “Log files” - which track actions occurring on the Site, and collect data including your IP address, browser type, internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps.

Additionally, when you hire, purchase or apply for a credit account through the Site or attempt to do so, we collect certain information from you. This information includes:

  • Your name, your billing and shipping address, your payment information including your credit card number, your e-mail address, your phone number, your company/business name (if applicable).
  • In relation to hiring goods, specific information necessary to verify your identity is collected through our online hiring process, including details of your driver’s licence, a digital image of your driver’s licence and/or a digital image of you.
  • In relation to applying for a credit account, your bank account details, trade references and, if the account is a company account, the name and address of the company and its directors/shareholders.

We collect this information by asking you to input it as part of the purchase, hire and/or account application processes. We refer to this information as “Order Information”.

When we talk about “Personal Information” in this Privacy Policy, we are talking about both Device Information and Order Information.

HOW DO WE USE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?

We use the Device Information that we collect and, in particular, your IP address, to screen for potential risks and fraud. We also use Device Information to improve and optimise the Site. For example, we use Device Information to generate analytics about how you and all our other customers browse and interact with the Site, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns.

We use the Order Information that we collect to fulfil any orders placed through the Site. In doing so, we use the Order Information to process your payment information, to arrange for the shipping of your purchased and/or hired goods and to provide you with invoices and order confirmations. Additionally, we will also use Order Information:

  • To communicate with you.
  • For direct/targeted marketing purposes.
  • To set up ongoing account/s for you.
  • To assist us to assess your background via your trade references in particular.

We use your Personal Information in relation to targeted advertisements or marketing communications in particular to identify products and/or services we believe may be of interest to you. You can opt out of targeted advertising/marketing by emailing info@cablesmiths.com.au.

DO NOT TRACK SIGNALS

Please note that we do not alter the Site’s data collection and use practices when we see a Do Not Track signal from your browser.

SHARING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

We share your Personal Information with third parties (e.g. Shopify and Google Analytics) to help us operate the Site and otherwise use your Personal Information more efficiently/effectively.  For example, we use Shopify to power our online store. We may also share your Personal Information to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other lawful request for information we receive, or to otherwise protect our rights.

DATA RETENTION AND STORAGE

When you place an order through the Site, we will generally store your Order Information in electronic form for our records unless and until you ask us to delete this information or we determine otherwise.

Order Information we collect from you to verify your identity for hire products is generally deleted after the equipment is returned to us as outlined in our hire agreement.

We have security measures in place to ensure that your Personal Information is secured and to prevent any unauthorised access, use, disclosure, modification, damage or alteration of your Personal Information. However, we will not be responsible for any unauthorised use of your Personal Information by a third party due to factors that are beyond our control. No transmission of information over the internet is 100% secure and therefore we will not be liable for any security breach that is beyond our control.

YOUR RIGHTS

You have the right to access and/or correct the Personal Information we hold about you. You may access and/or correct your Personal Information by logging into your user account on the Site. If you cannot access or correct your Personal Information yourself through the Site then you can email us at info@cablesmiths.com.au and we will assist you with the process. You may also use this email address to request the deletion of your Order Information. When making a request for access to or the correction or deletion of your Personal Information please provide us with as much detail as needed in order for us to facilitate the request. We may ask you to verify your identity before we proceed with the request. We will do our best to respond to any requests within 30 days. We will make all reasonable efforts to provide you with access to your Personal Information, however there may be circumstances where we cannot provide such access. This may include circumstances where disclosure of the requested information is restricted by law.

DISCLOSURE TO OVERSEAS RECIPIENTS

We may transfer your Personal Information to international recipients in the course of processing, using and storing your Personal Information. For example, we use Shopify which is a Canadian company and as such your information may be transferred to Canada, the United States of America and other countries or jurisdictions depending on the nature of the services Shopify provides to us. If we transfer your Personal Information overseas, we will comply with all applicable laws in doing so.

Additionally, if you are a European resident, we note that we will only use your information in order to fulfil contracts we might have with you (for example if you make an order through the Site), or otherwise to pursue our legitimate business interests. Additionally, please note that your information will be transferred outside of Europe, including to Canada and the United States.

CHANGES

As a part of our efforts to ensure that we properly manage and protect your Personal Information we may review and amend this Privacy Policy from time to time without notice to ensure that it is consistent with industry and regulatory standards.
